The dining room at Tony's, warm lighting over dark booths and round wooden tables set before service

Edmonton · since 1974 · est. 1964

Edmonton's original New York style thin crust pizza, served since 1974.

The Mazzotta family has run the place since 1974. It's still the thin New York crust you fold in half to eat.

Our roots

From a kitchen in Italy to 111 Avenue.

Tony Mazzotta Sr. opened the first Tony's on Gun Hill Road in the Bronx in 1964. He brought the recipe to Edmonton in 1974, and his sons run the kitchen off it today.

Three cities. One recipe. Still by hand.

Signature Pies

Classic New York

Mozzarella and our marinated sauce on a thin 16-inch crust. This is the one that started it. You fold it in half.

In the kitchen

Made the same way since ’64.

Real footage from the line. Sauce and cheese still go on by hand, one pie at a time, before it slides into the oven.

Tony brought the recipe over from the Bronx. His sons still work off it.

“Best pizza in Edmonton, hands down.”

When I first arrived the parking lot almost made me want to leave and the outside of the building/doors does not feel approachable. However we decided to go in and I am so glad we did.…

Great pizza. Imo their style is a cross between American and authentic Italian/Neapolitan. Dough holds up well, crispy crust. Great selection of toppings including feta, capicollo and anchovies. I'll definitely order again.

Press

Condé Nast called Edmonton a great pizza city. They came here.

The Globe and Mail and CBC did too, and the local awards go back to 2000. The full list and the family's history are on one page.
